Visita de Heiko Kärst

En el mes de septiembre, aprovechando sus vacaciones, Heiko y su señora visitaron España.
In Septembre, during their holidays, Heiko and his wife visited Spain.

Dado que se alojaban en el litoral de Tarragona, aprovechamos un fin de semana para ver algunos de los hábitats de Aphanius iberus y Valencia hispanica próximos: Río Llastres en L´Hospitalet de Llobregat, Santes Creus, Torrent del Pí y el delta del Ebro.
Since they were at the Tarragona coast, we met them on a week end to visit some typical habitats of Aphanius iberus and Valencia hispanica Río Llastres at L´Hospitalet de Llobregat, Santes Creus, Torrent del Pí and the Ebro.

SEI: Proyecto de Conservación

En la primavera de 2006 se ha realizado la instalación de 12 piscinas de 125 cm. de lado y 35 cm. de profundidad para la reproducción al aire libre de diversas especies de Ciprinodóntidos de interés para la SEI.

El volumen útil de cada una de estas piscinas es ligeramente superior a 400 l y su superficie de 1,5 m². Debido a la experiencia de años anteriores, se esperan buenos resultados y obtención de un buen número de ejemplares. Se puede considerar que se trata de una cría seminatural, ya que los peces no son frecuentemente alimentados. Se instalaron refugios (tejas o montones de piedras) y algas filamentosas que sirven como sustrato de puesta y para la propia alimentación de los peces. La mayoría de las piscinas cuentan también con nenúfares. Durante la temporada estival se ha instalado una malla de sombreo para evitar el calentamiento y la evaporación excesiva del agua .

En particular son las especies colectadas por los miembros de la SEI en su viaje a Turquía (TUBCD 05 ver GEVA), como Aphanius anatoliae anatoliae, A. anatoliae sureyanus, A. anatoliae transgrediens, A. mento y A.villwocki, así como otras que han sido mantenidas desde hace tiempo por la SEI como A. asquamatus, A. apodus, A. sirhani, A. saourensis, Cyprinodon alvarezi, etc.

SEI Conservation Project

During the Spring of 2006, 12 pools, each one measuring 125 cm in every size and 35 cm deep have been set up for the outdoor breeding of several Cyprinodontid species in which the SEI is interested.

The useful volume in every pool is slightly over 400 l and their surface accounts for 1,5 sq. m. Regarding our former experiences, we are looking forward to good results and obtaining a good yield of juvenile fish in every pool. This way of breeding may be considered as seminatural since the fish are not fed very often. Refuges such as old tiles or stone piles were placed in each pool. Filamentous algae serve both as laying substrate and food for the fish. Most of the pools have also water lilies. During the Summer, a shading sheet will prevent excesive temperature and therefore water evaporation.

The species collected in Turkey by the SEI members (see GEVA) have been favoured in this project, such as Aphanius anatoliae anatoliae, A. anatoliae sureyanus, A. anatoliae transgrediens, A. mento and A.villwocki. Other species that are being kept by SEI members since some time ago are also breeding in the pools: A. asquamatus, A. apodus, A. sirhani, A. saourensis, Cyprinodon alvarezi, etc.
